Curriculum

Student at work at Grewelthorpe schoolExcellence in teaching and enjoyment of learning is at the heart of our curriculum. We achieve a broad and balanced coverage of all National Curriculum requirements. It is largely planned around themes although some work such as Literacy and Numeracy may be organised as separate subjects. Sometimes the themes planned are predominantly scientific, at other times history or geography will be the major area being studied. Over the whole academic year a balance is achieved.

Student at work at Grewelthorpe schoolBasic skills are vital. The school achieved the Basic Skills Award for the third time in 2012, but we also wish to combine this with a rich and exciting curriculum that develops, stretches and excites the children's imagination. The richness of learning comes not just from learning different things but learning in many different ways: out-of-doors, through cross-curricular links or by seeing, hearing and doing.

The Curriculum at Grewelthorpe CE Primary School is specific to the needs of our pupils and our locality whilst incorporating British values. It helps to prepare the children for an appreciation of life in modern Britain. We make every effort to ensure parents and children are fully involved in planning at our school and regularly consult their views. Any parent who is able to help in school in any way is warmly welcomed.
