Class 1 Monday 11th January

Mrs Hebblewhite - 07 Jan 2021

Monday 11th January

Good morning everyone! We hope you all had a lovely weekend playing in the snow!

Join us at 9.00a.m this morning for a live meet, where we will be sharing the story 'My Big Blue Sofa'.

You will have been emailed your child's unique username (email address) and password, as well as an email invitiation, in order to log-in to Microsoft Teams, to join our meeting. You can find a guide on how to access Teams on the main news page. Please contact us at mrstodd@gfschools.co.uk if you have any problems.

If you have any technical issues during the session, there is a speech bubble 'chat' room on the left handside that you can type in, which I will do my best to keep an eye on throughout. Remember to click on the 'video camera' icon and make sure that there isn't a line through it, so that the children can see their friends! This icon will appear on a menu bar, when you hover your mouse over the main screen.

If you are unable to make it today, click on the triangle play button below to watch the story.

Workbook and Worksheets:

Please can you keep the work that your child has done during their home-schooling, for us to collect later on. If you can please note the date the work was done and whether it was completed independently or with support, it would be much appreciated. Please feel free to contact us at mrstodd@gfschools.co.uk, if you would like some extra activity ideas or support in any aspect of your child's home-learning.

Activity for Reception and Nursery:

Listen to the story today.
What colour is your sofa? What could you pretend it is? A car/boat/bed/aeroplane?
What can you use to help you pretend?
Maybe you could build a sofa for you teddy using building bricks or some junk modelling materials?

Phonics Reception :

Today we will look at the 'th' digraph. Remember, it can make two different sounds, 'th' like in the word 'thing' and 'th' like in the word 'that'.
Practise making those two sounds. One is like a naughty clown sticking out his tongue! The other sound is a bit like a buzzing bee!
Can you think of any words that start or end with a 'th' sound?

Find the sheet in your phonics pack which is entitled 'Find and Write the 'th' Words '. Use the phoneme frame under each picture and see if you can say which sounds you need to spell each word. Sound talk each word first - you can talk like a robot! If you are feeling very clever, you can write in the letters to fill in the missing sounds!

You might like to watch this 'Tricky Words' song and join in with the actions that go with our tricky word cards.

Phonics Nursery:

Each week we will introduce a new sound.  This week, our 'sound of the week' is 'S' - the 'sssssss' sound, like the sound on a snake.
Can you make an action like a snake with your arm and practise making this sound?
Ask your grown-up to tell you some words that start with the 'sssss' sound. Can you think of some?
You could make your own snake, like these.

Maths Reception:

Today we are looking at number 8.
Can you think of any creatures with 8 legs or arms?
Click on the play triangle to watch a Numberblocks episode on the number 8.

Find and complete the number 8 formation sheet in your Maths Pack and complete this, with the help of your grown-up.  Remember to hold your pencil carefully and start your number in the right place.

Can you make or draw a spider or an octupus?
Count or cut out the legs/arms.
As you stick them on, talk about the different ways of making 8, or practise saying number sentences. For example, you might have 1 leg stuck on and 7 in your pile. You can say that "7 add (or plus) 1 equals (or makes) 8".
You can bring your spider to our Teams meet tomorrow morning!

OR.....

If you still have some snow outside your house, practise writing '8' in the snow.
You could draw some spiders too. Put some of the legs on one side of its body and the rest on the other side (e.g. 4 and 4 or 6 and 2).
How many different 'wonky' spiders can you draw?
(If you're feeling clever, you could write your number sentence in the snow).

OR you could...

Get out your cubes and count out 8 of them. Put them on your ten frame . Can you put them on the frame  in some different ways?
You could try and  record one of your ways. Perhaps draw the cubes or use numbers. Talk to your grown- up about what you have found out .

Maths Nursery:

Can you make or draw a spider or an octupus?
Count as you draw or cut some strips of paper for the legs or arms.
Can you count them as you stick them on?

Reading Books:

Each Friday we will leave the boxes of reading books in the main playground shelter. You may help yourselves to up to three reading books. Please can you drop the returned books in the drop-box, which we will quarentine over the weekend, before we then recirculate the books.

If you have any queries, please feel free to contact us at mrstodd@gfschools.co.uk.

Take care and stay safe,
Mrs Todd and Mrs Hebblewhite xx
