Tuesday 2nd February Class 1

RHebblewhite - 29 Jan 2021

Tuesday 2nd February

Good morning everyone! We hope you all had a great start to the week.

Today's Tasks are as follows:
Phonics Reception - New sound, 'igh' and practise tricky words.
Maths Reception - New shape - Cuboids - explore with food packaging.
Phonics Nursery - Make a 'p' words collage, from magazines and catalogues.
Maths Nursery - Explore 3D shapes in food packaging. Make a pretend shop.

Join us at 9.00a.m. this morning for a live meet, to share the story ''I Want A Pet"
(Reception, you can also join in with my Tricky Word song afterwards, if you like).

If you are unable to make it today, click on the triangle play button below, to watch the story.

Activity for Reception and Nursery

Listen to the story today. Did you enjoy it? What was your favourite part?
Can you remember some of the pets in the story?
Can you think of some other wild animals that would not make a good pet? Why?
Perhaps you could find some animal teddys and use them to tell your own story?
You could fold an A4 sheet in half, to make your own 'I Want A Pet' story, with some pictures of animals that would not be good pets.
Reception, you could write a sentence beneath your pictures, for example - "A lion will bite", "A monkey will make a mess". Write the words phonetically, using the sounds you know. You only need to write the sounds that you can hear in the words, e.g. 'mucee', for 'monkey' would be phonetically plausible at Reception age.

Phonics Reception

Go through your tricky word cards. Can you read and join in with the words in our new Tricky Words song?

This week's new sound is 'igh'. It has 3 letters that make 1 sound (a trigraph).
It makes the sound that a sailor on a ship might say to his captain, like in the picture below.
Practise saluting and making that sound. How many different ways can you say it? e.g. quietly, loudly, slowly, quickly...

Watch
and join in with this short lesson, then complete the 'igh' sound sheet  in your pack, to stick in your Sound Book. Click on the play triangle to watch (no need to sign in).

Phonics Nursery

Our new 'sound of the week' is the 'p' sound.

Can you join in with our 'P' song?

With your grown-up's help, can you make a collage of words that start with 'p'? You could use magazines, the Argos catalogue and clothes catalogues.
Can you find pictures of: Words with a 'p', pets, people, pots and pans, ponies, something pink or if you have a clothes catalogue, pyjamas and pants!

Maths Reception

Find the sheet entitled 'Hide Away Tubs' in your Maths Pack and complete the activity. The first line on the sheet says, "Choose a number to practise...count out that number of things and show your friend".

We have been learning about 3D shapes. Can you remember the names of the shapes we have learnt so far? Can you find a 3D shape and point to its 'faces', 'corners' and 'edges?'.

Today we are going to learn about 'cuboids'. Which shape are they a little bit like? How are they different?
Cut out the 'cuboid' card from your Maths Pack and make a cuboid collection. What shape are a cuboid's faces? How many does it have? Can you stack them/roll them?
Or perhaps you could see how many cuboid shaped boxes you can spot in the kitchen cupboards. Afterwards, you could make a pretend shop.

Maths Reception

Have a look in your kitchen cupboards. Can you find some strong food boxes and tins? Sort them into two groups. Can you roll/stack a tin/box? Build a tower with them. Can you count how many boxes or tins in your tower? Afterwards, you could set up a pretend shop.

Well done, everyone!
