Morning work

Y1 - write the numbers 1 to 10 as numerals using your whiteboard pen and the laminated sheet headed 'Writing numbers'. Can you say the number formation rhyme as you write?

Y2 - Write the numbers 1 to 10 in numerals and words using your whiteboard pen on the back of your laminated letter formation sheet. Did you form all of your numbers correctly using the rhyme above?
Check your spelling using the back of your dictionaries or click on the Home Learning tab at the top of the page.

Challenge - if you know that you can confidently remember how to spell the numbers 1 to 10 then practice the numbers 11 to 20 instead.

English

Click on the following link to hear a new story Dragon story

Write the answers to these questions in your home school book. You can share your answers in our Teams meeting tomorrow Thursday.

All
1) The town had a problem. What was the problem?
2)
Write down one of the animals that was sent to scare the dinosaur.
3) How did the town get rid of the dinosaur?
4) Did you like the story? (Challenge: give reasons)

Y2 to write the following answers as well. Y1 can say their answers to an adult.
5) What was your favourite part of the story?
6) How did the story teller try to make it interesting to listen to?

Y1 Maths

Play 'Money Swap'. You will need a dice, ten 1p coins and four 5p coins. If you don't have real coins then you can make some.

1) Roll the dice.
2) Get that number of 1p coins
3) If you have 5 1p coins then swap them for a 5p coin
4) Roll the dice again and have another go.

Can you get all the way to 20p? Remember you won't have enough 1p coins so you must swap them.

You can play with someone in your family. You will need double the number of coins if 2 people are playing. Take turns to have a go and the winner is the first to get to 20p

Find and complete the next sheet in your Money Practice booklet. It should say 'Draw 1p, 2p or 5p coins in the bags' at the top.
Challenge: Use as many 2p coins as you can each time.

Take a photo of your work and post it into your private area on Teams. (If you have problems doing that then email it to me at mrshickingbotham@gfschools.co.uk)

Y2 Maths

Before we start with today's problem, let's practice counting using money.

1) Ruby and Sam have been saving more money. Here is a picture.

Can you work out how much money each of the children has? My friend used multibase to help. Write your number sentences, drawings, workings out and answers in your journal and we will do this problem together in a minute.

2) Now they want to know what coins they could use to make these amounts. Can you remember what coins we have in the UK?

I don't want my purse to be too heavy so try to use as few coins as you can.

My friend said she could make 25p using only 2 coins. How did she do that?

Challenge: 1) What is the fewest number of coins you can use for each amount?
                   2) Is it possible to make 74p with only 2 coins?
                   3) Show more than one way to make each amount.
                   4) Use as many 20p coins as you can.

Let's go through the porblems together. Watch the video below.

Todays pages in your Maths No Problem book are p23 - 24. You can mark your own work using the answers in the Home Learning tab.

Phonics/Spelling

Year 1
Watch the video to find out what we are learning today in phonics.

Let's play a game. Log onto Phonics Play at https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/ Select 'Resources then Phase 5 from the menu bar at the top of the page. Now scroll down past 'Phase 5a'  until you get to 'Phase 5b Interactive Resources.

Choose the game 'Acorn Adventures', click on 'Start' then choose 'o'

Read the word on the acorn. If the letter 'o' is making it's usual sound /o/ like in hot then drag the acorn to the tree with the word 'hot'. If the letter 'o' is making the new sound like in 'no' then drag the acorn to the tree with the word 'no' on it.

Practice this weeks spellings. Remember to 'Look at the word. Say it out loud. Cover it up. Write it. Check that what you have written is the same as the original.

Year 2
Click on the link https://www.spellingplay.co.uk/planning-and-resources/year-2/more-suffixes/third-person-singular-pirates   to meet the Third Person Singular Pirates. You need to click on 'Start', then 'Go to Menu' , then remind yourself about verbs by clicking on 'What are Verbs'. Next click on the Demonstration 'Just add -s' then 'Just add -es'

Practice this weeks spellings. Remember to 'Look at the word. Say it out loud. Cover it up. Write it. Check that what you have written is the same as the original.

Reading

Quiet reading for 20 mins - you can read to someone else or to yourself.
Y2 - make sure that you click on the link https://ukhosted116.renlearn.co.uk/2245402/  and complete the quiz when you have finished a book.

Computing
Log onto Purple Mash. I have set some work in your 'to do ' section . I was thinking about our story in English and have started drawing the T-Rex. Can you finish it off? To choose a new colour just click on the pens on the left hand side of the screen.

Because I have set it has work to do you will not be able to choose where to save it or what to call it. When you click on 'save' it will just save automatically in the '2Do' tab and your 'My Work' folder.
