Wednesday 20th May

19 May 2020

Hi Class 3.

I hope you had a good day yesterday. Thanks again for all of the pictures you sent me, I love the way that you have used your imaginations to create your gardens. Don't forget you have all week to complete this so if you want to do a bit each day then that is fine. I'm making one in my garden too so we are going to try to build the houses today (planning permission is a nightmare here though so it might not be finished for a couple of years). I don't think they will be as good as some of your ones though!

Hopefully it will be nice and sunny today (please don't blame me if it rains!) so we can get outside and have lots of fun later on (don't forget the sun cream).

PE

For our PE this week we have something a bit different. We are going to take place in an athletics competetion! But how do we do that I hear you say. Well here's how...

We (or you, I'm too old sadly) are going to do the events at home and then if you want to take part email me your scores and I'll put them together and send them off to Mrs Speed (best name for a PE teacher ever!!) . She will then compare our scores to all of the other schools who have sent their results in and see who wins. You do need a fair bit of space for this and a bit of imagination too to alter the equipment (maybe for the speed bounce you could jump over a rolled up towel for example). Sending in your scores is optional but it would be great if we could get at least five back so we can enter.

You don't need to send your scores today, have lots of goes to get the hang of it and then send me your best scores by Friday. You could even have a competition at home to see who wins in your house.

My email again is mrgamble@gfschools.co.uk

I'm going to have a go at this today to try and keep myself fit. I just hope I don't hit my greenhouse with the tennis ball...

Maths

Year 3

First - very sorry for putting the wrong slides on yesterday and thank you very much for letting me know - hopefully we will have the correct ones today!!! We should be on lesson 3 today.

Slide Show

I wonder what coins Sam could use and is there more than one way? What if they used a £5 note, would they get any change?
You could even pay with 280 pennies, but I don't think the shop-keeper would be very happy!

When we have done this one in class people have thought about how to pay with one coin. What could it be, and what happens if you pay with a coin that is worth more than the item, eg , if you paid for a 50p drink with a £1 coin?

For this there could be different combinations from the ones in the answers here.

For this have a look at how much each item is. Which is the cheapest, which is the most expensive? Why are some things sold as one item like the mangoes, and some sold in groups like the strawberries? Also, do you know what a "punnet" is?

Here it wants to you think about which is the most expensive, or greatest number and why. How do you know which is the biggest number?
Which is the greater amount and why?

Today we will be writing some postcards. It would have been lovely to have been able to go on holiday at half term but instead we'll have to use our imaginations and pretend we've been instead. Both groups will be writing postcards, but they will each have a slightly different focus. If you read the instructions on your sheet then hopefully that will explain everything (well how to do the sheet anyway, it won't explain everything, like why the sky is blue and things like that).

Don't forget to check for full stops and capital letters, and use some wonderful language too (Eg "The glowing orange sun was behind the lush, green fields" sounds better than "The sun was behind the field."

Year 3

Today we are going to look at prepositions again to help to keep them fresh in our minds. I've put a PowerPoint for you to look at below. We have seen this PowerPoint before so hopefully you will remember some of it.

  -Preposition PowerPoint yr3.ppt-

Hopefully you should have a sheet like the one below in your learning packs. Please read the instructions and complete the sheet. yes

Year 4

Today we will re-cap fronted adverbials.

Hopefully in your pack there should be a sheet that looks like this....

When you have finished please go back and have a check that you have got full stops, capital letters and then double check your spellings too (you could ask a grown-up to help you with that).  I've been impressed with the presentation of your handwriting that I have seen too, so don't forget to keep it neat and joined up, please. smiley

Afternoon activities.

Please carry on with your mini-gardens this afternoon, or any of the other projects that you want to complete that you might need a bit more time on.

If you have finished all of those then you could spend some time on Reading Plus, Rockstar maths or even having a go at improving your scores for the PE compettion. Don't forget of course that there is the half an hour of daily reading to do too.

Have a great afternoon,
Mr G
