Good morning class 4

Tomorrow is VE day but this one is special because it's 75 years since it happened. What famous event do you think happened on the 8th May 1945?

I'll give you a clue....

VE means Victory in Europe.

World war 2 was over for Europeans after 6 long years of battle and many lives lost. We're remembering it with celebrations and you may have noticed lots of flags being hung out and bunting stretched across streets.

As it's a special day, I thought we'd change our normal routine and do some work themed on World War 2.

One way of celebrating is to decorate your house in red, white and blue (like the colours of our flag) I've provided a blank British flag in your NEW pack. I'd like you to colour it in correctly, it can be a bit tricky so look at the picture of the top of this page or find another and complete it. You could put it in your window.

Then research about food rationing on http://www.primaryhomeworkhelp.co.uk/war/rationing2.html
and afterwards why not follow a recipe based on what people would have been able to bake with their ration allowance. Here's one I've done with my classes before.

)

Honey Cakes
Ingredients
1 level teaspoon sugar
2½ oz margarine
2 Level tablespoons honey
6 oz self-raising flour
1 level teaspoon cinnamon
Quantity 16 to 20

Method
Beat together the sugar and margarine until the mixture is soft and creamy, then add the honey.
Sift together the flower and cinnamon.
Add to the creamy mixture with a spoon until it binds together then work it with your fingers until it is soft smooth dough.
Flour your hands, take off a piece of dough about the size of a large walnut and roll between the palms of hands until it is a smooth ball.
Put onto a slightly greased tin and flatten slightly.
Continue until all the dough has been used up.
Bake in a moderately hot oven until the cakes are done - about 15 mines.

I would love to see if anyone has managed to pull off doing the Lindy hop dance - It's for adults too and it's a bank holiday so they'll have plenty of time to dance with you I'm sure
