Judaism day

27 Jan 2023

Our weeks certainly are varied.

On Tuesday we were learning all about renewable and non-renewable energies and how different countries use and produce different fuels. We learnt how the world is 85% reliant on fossil fuels and have studied the effects this has on our planet.

Here is some of our findings

Then on Wednesday, we spent a day learning all about the Jewish faith, as part of our 'World faith of the year'. We learnt all about the Jewish festivals, customs and religious symbols.

Here we have someone reading the Torah, quite a skill considering he had to read it from right to left and also translate it from Hebrew. We do have high standards here at Grewelthorpe. He is also using a Yad as we're not allowed to touch the Torah. It takes someone a whole year to scribe it!

And to complete the week, we have been working a lot on using figurative language to create greater atmosphere and effect in our writing. We have been considering the effects deforestation has on the rainforest and have tried to write a poem which will be emotive and make people think about world issues like this. Finished pieces to come next week but here we are using pictures of deforested scenes to come up with adjectives and phrases.
