Our Vision for PE

At Grewelthorpe Primary, we believe that Physical Education plays a vital role in the development of every child. Sport and physical activity not only support physical fitness and health but also help to shape confident, resilient, and motivated young people who can thrive both in and out of the classroom.

Through PE and sport, children can:

  • Develop perseverance and a strong sense of motivation

  • Build self-confidence and resilience through challenge and effort

  • Experience the fun of physical activity and discover a lifelong love for sport

  • Learn teamwork, cooperation, and leadership skills

  • Understand healthy competition and how to handle both success and setbacks

  • Take responsibility for their personal well-being and that of others

  • Build healthy habits that can last a lifetime

We believe that sport teaches children how to set goals, bounce back from difficulties, and keep trying—even when things get tough. These are life skills that go far beyond the playing field.

How We Support High-Quality PE and Sport

To ensure every child benefits, we are committed to:

  • Delivering high-quality PE through strong teaching and ongoing professional development

  • Providing leadership and support from senior leaders and the governing body

  • Working in partnership with organisations like the Harrogate School Sports Partnership

  • Collaborating with other schools to offer shared practice and competitive opportunities

  • Using Sports Premium funding strategically to create lasting improvements in Physical Education, Sport, and Physical Activity (PESPA)

Sports Premium Funding

We receive annual funding through the Sports Premium initiative: a base amount of £16,000, plus an additional £10 per pupil. This funding is used to make sustainable improvements across five key areas of PE and school sport, as outlined in national guidance.

Our Aim

We aim to inspire every child to enjoy being active, to embrace challenge, and to develop a lifelong love of sport. We want all children to see sport not just as exercise, but as a source of joy, confidence, perseverance, and personal growth.
