Welcome

Nestled in the heart of our local community within the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Beauty, Grewelthorpe Primary offers a complete and enriching education for children aged 3 to 11, from Nursery through to Year 6. Our small class sizes create a warm, inclusive environment where every child is encouraged to step outside their comfort zone, try new things, and grow in confidence.
At Grewelthorpe Primary, learning goes beyond the classroom. Whether it’s exploring the outdoors in Forest School, building water confidence through swimming classes, performing in music recitals, or taking centre stage in our Year 5 and 6 school play, every child is given the opportunity to shine.
We are proud of our strong academic foundation, with a particular focus on phonics, Maths and English, but also the breadth and depth of our wider curriculum. We consistently receive positive feedback from both pupils and parents. But what truly sets us apart is our sense of community – a place where children of all ages know and support one another, forming lasting friendships and a deep sense of belonging.
We warmly invite you to discover what makes Grewelthorpe Primary such a special place to learn and grow. Contact us via email to book a visit.

"Welcome to Grewelthorpe Church of England Primary School – a small rural school with a big heart.
At Grewelthorpe Primary, we believe that when children feel safe, seen, and supported, they develop the confidence and curiosity to become lifelong learners and thoughtful citizens."

About our school

Grewelthorpe CE Primary School is a friendly, exciting and stimulating place to learn. We want our children to become creative, independent and confident, able to forge their own future and change the world for the better.
The school is situated about 6 miles north of Ripon and 3 miles south of Masham.
There has been a school in Grewelthorpe since 1842, today learning takes place in a spacious and modern school building, opened in 2003.
We are very proud of our distinctiveness as a church school. St James and the Methodist Church is our parish church and all major Christian festivals are celebrated there. We have strong links with the Diocese and work in partnership with the wider church school family.
We are committed to preparing our children for living in a global community. Our passion for celebrating diversity and the richness of other cultures can be seen in all aspects of the school’s work.
We work closely with our local community and are always looking for innovative ways of extending the range of opportunities we can offer our children.
Vision
LDLT Vision
Serving and celebrating our unique schools and communities, we will love, live and learn together. Valuing our pupils, staff, governors, and team as people of God, we will deliver transformational learning and the flourishing of all.
Our Vision is rooted in the example of the life of Jesus. In each Gospel and story, we are challenged to love one another and ourselves (Matthew 22:37-39) and reminded that all things are possible (Matthew 19:26)
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’
Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

our path to a brighter world.

As a church school, we have chosen John 10v10 as the foundation of our school vision:
" I have come that they may have life and have it to the full "
John 10 v10
