This week the children have been making some mini-flag poles to tie in with the World Cup. They had to design a way of getting the flags to go up and down the pole, and then they decorated their creations too. Afterwards everyone drew the flag of the country that they thought would win the World Cup, and nearly the whole class went for England! Let's hope they're right!

Class 1 have had an exciting week with a trip to Thorpe Perrow and a KS1 trip to watch an Opera North performance of Mozarts' The Magic Flute. It was magical! In DT this week the KS1 children have been working to create axels with functioning wheels which they will use to make a vehicle. Have a lovely weekend everyone!

This week class1 have continued to explore ways to sort trees and plants. Thank you for your support with their homework! In maths we have contined to compare amounts of money. We will be looking at how giving change works next week. In RE the children have looked at stories that are special to Muslims and have explored what happens in a Mosque. As the children have been taking part in a school play all about Robin Hood we thought it would be a good idea to look at the story of Robin in our Guided Reading sessions. The children loved reading all of the different tales that Robin was involved in and we acted a few of the scenes out too. After a few battles in class with the evil Sheriff we wrote down our answers in our books and even drew what we thought Robin's hideaway would look like based on the text. The children

Greetings from Bewerley Park - this is our dorm block. The boys have the front end and the girls have the back block. We've had a great first day at Bewereley Park. We unpacked our bags, chose our bunks and made our beds (perhaps the most challenging task of the day) and then headed straight off to Brimham rocks for some rock-climbing challenges. We had to work as a team, listen carefully and push ourselves out of our comfort zone and through some quite tight spaces. We all then had a great dinner, used the tuck shop and have done some orienteering and played lots of football and blockie.

This week the children have looked at different flowering plants,made comparisons between their leaves and flowers and named the main parts. In maths EYFS have been making and counting sets of 20 objects. We have tried to stay cool with calm mindful activities like colouring, drawing and water play. The EYFS children had a shady forest school with lots of making. They have been amazing at coping with the heatwave! Well done class 1!

Yesterday we all had a great time to visit Leeds Art Gallery; it was a welcome relief to be inside a cool building to spend the day. We spent sometime admiring the different styles of art, from Victorian oil paintings, to a mixture of mediums to paint portraits, to modern sculpture and, well, lots of other 'art' pieces known as contemporary, which required lots of open-mindedness to interpret which was lots of fun.
