Homework
Homework is given out on a Friday to be handed in on the following Tuesday or before. The homework will usually be linked to work that we are doing in class for Maths, English or Topic and is an opportunity for children to share and talk about what they have been learning at school.
Spellings
Each Monday the children are introduced to this week's spelling focus and are given spellings to learn for Friday. The words are written on a grid to enable a 'LOOK, SAY, COVER' then 'WRITE and CHECK' method of learning. Children should practice their spellings at home either on the grid or you can use various other ways such as magnetic letters or sounding out in the car. The spelling focus will be assessed on Friday in the form of a spelling test. Please keep the spelling books at home and bring them back to school on Friday.
Reading
On Friday the children will bring home their reading practice book. Please support your child by listening to them read and share their books so that they can show you how we have been practicing reading with fluency and expression at school. They could talk about their favourite parts of the book, ask if there are words that they can't remember the meaning of and celebrate their success!
On Tuesday the children will have the opportunity to choose and borrow a book from our library. This is for you to read and share with your child to promote and encourage reading for pleasure.
