We've started looking at balanced arguments in English and weighing up where we stand on a range of subjects. Should children get homework? Should children own mobile phones? We quickly realised we needed to go over what being unbiased meant and had to consider both sides of the debate...

Needless to say, their minds were made up but here we are deciding where we stand on the use of mobile phones

We also highligted the features of a balanced argument

And then held a full debate, taking on the perspectives of different people. I was impressed with their ability to argue for a point that wasn't their own and commit to it.

Then in science, we brushed up on our understanding of materials and their properties. We then checked our understanding of these properties by grouping and sorting materials based on these properties. We looked at thermal insulators, electrical conductors, magnetism and their strength.
