PE in the sunshine
Once again the sun has (sort of) been shining and between the hail and the rain we've managed to get outside and to keep working on our tennis skills with Mr Whitford. The children have been improving their serving skills and learning how to get the ball over the net (they've also been getting it over the school fence a few times too so I'm sure there are now some tennis balls rolling around in the village!). Class 1 News
This week both EYFS and KS1 have enjoyed forest school sessions with Mrs Longstaff. Constructing a Maya civilisation
We're now quite knowledgeable about the Maya - we've learnt about their Gods and how they lived their whole lives to please them. This week has been filled with exciting enrichments. The KS1 children enjoyed a Fire of London workshop and everyone had a wonderful time today with our Art workshop. Getting to know the Maya
We've been studying the volume this week in maths. The children have learnt the process of finding the volume and to try and make maths as engaging as possible, we like to have a bit of fun with our calculations. We know the process to calculate it, but will it work? We found the volume of containers and then measured the exact amount of water out and poured it into a container... however, we needed a brave volunteer to sit underneath said container while we poured the water

This week we have been busy working away on our local history topic all about Fountains Abbey. We have been using maps of the local area to work out where the abbey is, and how we could get there from our school (the children are definitely better at not getting lost than I am!). We've been reading Kensuke's Kingdom, which is based on a family who decide to pack up and go on an around-the-world tour (if only!) however, they're doing it in a tiny boat and sailing across the Atlantic with only basic experience. Magical Music
Thursday is everyone's favourite day of the week as the children have their music lesson with Mrs Longstaff. Over the term the children will be creating their own pieces of music using a range of different instruments and focusing on different styles too. Summer, here we come
This week, we've been brushing up on our angles understanding. Using the protractor to measure precisely and then had lots of fun to estimate freehand and see how close we were. Welcome back!
It was great to see everybody again this week and to be able to welcome the children back to school. It was also lovely to actually see some sunshine and we made the most of it by getting outside at every opportunity. D and T Week
This week has been a really busy week as we have saved one of our best topics until last - levers and linkages in D and T. The children had to create an Easter card that had different moving parts to it, and they had to design all of the mechanisms and movements by themselves. Class 1 News
This week in maths the children have moved onto learning about measures of length and height. They have used centimetres and metres as standard units of measurment. The younger children have focused on the language of comparison of length. The KS1 children had a great time at forest school with Mrs Longstaff. Sunny forest schools
At forest school for the last few weeks we have discussed fire etiquette in order to light a fire safely. We have practised using a flint and steel to create a spark and reminded ourselves of the fire triangle. We have toasted smores and also cooked bread on the fire on a peeled green stick. We're going on a mini-beast hunt!
This week the sun finally started shining and we made the most of the good weather by going outside and looking for mini-beasts. In science we have been studying different types of animals and creating classification keys, so we went outside to see which types of creatures we could find and then think about how we could sort them into different groups. First aid
This week, we've been doing some very important skills around how to deliver first aid and what to do in an emergency. Here we are carrying out a practical and putting our first-aid knowledge to the test. We were also very fortunate to have Bethel church come back to deliver a different workshop on the life of Jesus. They went through Jesus' life in order and brought it to life by having people play roles from the stories. We got to do a bit of drama by acting out the scenes

Class 1 News
This week in maths the EYFS children have been exploring doubles . They have made a display of doubles butterflies . KS1 children have been counting in 2s , 5s and 10s and looking at the relationships between them . As part of our world religion we have learnt about the Hindu spring festival of Holi and produced some fantastic art work which is up in the classroom . The EYFS children enjoyed the story Dear Zoo and each produced their own page which we have proudly displayed .
