We've been reading Kensuke's Kingdom, which is based on a family who decide to pack up and go on an around-the-world tour (if only!) however, they're doing it in a tiny boat and sailing across the Atlantic with only basic experience. The story's centred around Michael, an 11-year-old boy who blogs about his trip. We've been writing as Michael inventing our own blogs using Purple Mash. The children have really enjoyed writing their own, reading others and leaving supportive comments.

In music, the children have been learning the song 'Aint gonna let nobody'. They identified when chords changed within the song and used tuned percussion instruments and guitars to play the chords at the right time.

In our latest forest school session, we challenged the children to create mini shelters in teams. They then used tools to carve 'butter knives' and 'elder pencils'. On the fire, they cooked a tin of greenwood sticks to make charcoal for some pencils.
