At forest school for the last few weeks we have discussed fire etiquette in order to light a fire safely. We have practised using a flint and steel to create a spark and reminded ourselves of the fire triangle. We have toasted smores and also cooked bread on the fire on a peeled green stick. We have also learnt a lot about how to keep ourselves safe when using tools. Children have practised whittling using peelers and hand knives, peeling bark, practising a stop cut and a thumb push cut. They also had the chance to saw thicker branches using a saw horse and hand saw.
