Welcome to class 3
We've had a really busy two weeks, and now my ipad is working, I can load pictures on again of all the things we've been up to.
Firstly, we celebrated our first day back by hearing about one another's summer and I shared some American sweets from my travels, with of course was much appreciated.
We've been securing our understanding of place value by reaching the dizzying numbers of up to 10,000,000. The children have worked out to break numbers down (partition) to much more manageable numbers to realise it's not so difficult if you understand place value.
In our geography lessons, we have been studying how mountains impact the landscape. We are hoping to arrange a trip to Roseberry Topping to undertake some fieldwork studies very soon. But in the meantime, we've been doing some map work and yesterday we had someone from Swaledale Mountain Rescue out to talk to us about how to enjoy the mountainous land safely. We were studying the contour lines to spot mountainous areas using OS maps.
Not to mention all the fun we've been having at our forest-school sessions with Mrs Longstaff on Mondays.
And just some house-keeping notes for anyone who missed the 'meet-the-teacher' night:
Homework is given out on a Thursday and due in on (or before Tuesday) It's always a maths of English piece.
The children have their AR books now and it's always helpful to drop in on their reading and check their understanding of the text.
Spellings are given weekly on a Monday and due back in for a Friday.
