Summer, here we come

Welcome back!
It was great to see everybody again this week and to be able to welcome the children back to school. It was also lovely to actually see some sunshine and we made the most of it by getting outside at every opportunity. D and T Week
This week has been a really busy week as we have saved one of our best topics until last - levers and linkages in D and T. The children had to create an Easter card that had different moving parts to it, and they had to design all of the mechanisms and movements by themselves. Class 1 News
This week in maths the children have moved onto learning about measures of length and height. They have used centimetres and metres as standard units of measurment. The younger children have focused on the language of comparison of length. The KS1 children had a great time at forest school with Mrs Longstaff. Sunny forest schools
At forest school for the last few weeks we have discussed fire etiquette in order to light a fire safely. We have practised using a flint and steel to create a spark and reminded ourselves of the fire triangle. We have toasted smores and also cooked bread on the fire on a peeled green stick. We're going on a mini-beast hunt!
This week the sun finally started shining and we made the most of the good weather by going outside and looking for mini-beasts. In science we have been studying different types of animals and creating classification keys, so we went outside to see which types of creatures we could find and then think about how we could sort them into different groups. First aid
This week, we've been doing some very important skills around how to deliver first aid and what to do in an emergency. Here we are carrying out a practical and putting our first-aid knowledge to the test. We were also very fortunate to have Bethel church come back to deliver a different workshop on the life of Jesus. Class 1 News
This week in maths the EYFS children have been exploring doubles . They have made a display of doubles butterflies . KS1 children have been counting in 2s , 5s and 10s and looking at the relationships between them . As part of our world religion we have learnt about the Hindu spring festival of Holi and produced some fantastic art work which is up in the classroom . The EYFS children enjoyed the story Dear Zoo and each produced their own page which we have proudly displayed .

World Book Day
What a great day we had celebrating books new and old in school. This year's was one to remember with all the activities going on in school. We had an author visit, chocolate bars being sold, North Stainley came to visit and all sorts of fun activities throughout the day. Well done Class 3 on their excellent costumes

Class 1 News
We have had such a busy week ! The children looked amazing in their costumes yesterday . Our visiting author ran a super workshop based on the book Where The Wild Things Are. In RE the EYFS children have been acting out the story of Palm Sunday using palm leaves that they cut out themselves. World Book Day and Trip to the Wildlife Park
We have had a really exciting week this week, and not only have we been out on a school trip, but we've also had World Book Day too! On Wednesday we went to Askham Bryan Wildlife park near York to take part in some workshops to help us with our science topic. Shake it off
This week class 3 had the opportunity to go to a dance showcase. They've been eagerly mastering a dance routine all halfterm and demonstrated their dance to a crowded hall, full of primary-school children. Dance Festival
On Tuesday we went to take part in a dance festival at Outwood school to show off our dancing skills. The children had been working with Mr Whitford in pe to create a dance routine from scratch that they could perform at the festival. We always look forward to art week and this time it was painting's turn to be our choice of medium. This week has been one of our favourite weeks so far - art week! For our project we created mountain scenes inspired by the winter Olympics. The children used a range of different types of paints and tools to create some wonderful pictures. This week the children have explored watercolours. They experimemted with different techniques and used brushes and pipettes.
