Canopic Jars clay sculpting

A Breckon - 17 Oct 2019

18th October 2019

Having recently visited the Pump rooms and seeing some canopic jars up close, we decided we'd sculpt our own. Mrs Lyall came in to model how to create shapes and other clay-working techniques so we could create our own thumb-pots. We decided which of the four animal heads we'd like to make from the: baboon, falcon, human and jackal. Each one with its own distinct features. I wonder if you can identify some of the animal heads in our pots below.

We now have our display up, which we're very proud of, showing our poetry work. We have tried to create a tense-atmospheric feeling by describing the setting and feeling inside a pyramid shrouded in mystery and legend. Please come in and read some; we hope you enjoy our work.
