Maths
For our maths today we are going to re-cap telling the time and using the 24hour clock.
In the clip below the Chuckle brothers have a problem. They are waiting for a guest but get the time wrong! I wonder what went wrong?

The brothers have forgotten about am and pm! There is another way to tell the difference between times in the morning and afternoon though, we could use the 24 hr clock.
Today we are going to look at how to change the time from a 12hr clock to a 24 hr clock. Have a look at the slides below to see what to do. (The slideshow can take a bit longer to load sometimes.)
Both of these clock look the same, but one is very early in the morning, and one is in the afternoon.
Again, the clocks look the same but you have added twelve to the time to show it is in the afternoon. This is because once the hands have once around once, we count on from 12 to get the times in the afternoon.
Here you can see how after 12 oclock we go to 13:00 .

Task
I would like you to create a time table for a park in the rainforest and then well me what happens at different times using the 24 hr clock.
It could look like this:
7:00 - The zoo keepers arrive at the zoo and get ready.
7:30 - Time to give the sloths their breakfasts.
8:10 - Clean the leopards' teeth!
9: 00 First visitors arrive...
See how many interesting events you can think of, and don't forget to add 12 to the time once it gets past 12 pm! So 2pm would be 14:00

Writing:
Today we are going to carry on thinking about poems and animals, and today we are going to create some shape poems based on what we did yesterday. These are lots of fun and you can really let your imagination and creativity go making these.
It can be very tricky getting the outline the right size and might take more than one attempt! It usually takes me quite a few. There are a few different things you could do for the outline. You could draw the animal and then put the writing inside, or you could make the writing the outline itself, like on the ones below. You can have lots of fun creating different shapes and ideas. Even the colour of the writing can be used. Maybe the words could be orange and black for the stripes of a tiger, or yesterday a very clever person used their colours to make their writing match the feathers of a parrot!
It can be very tricky creating a new poem , so I would use my poem from yesterday and see if I could adapt and change that to create a shape poem. Maybe you could change your sloth poem to be in the shape of a sloth. Of course, if you want to make a new poem up you can do, and you could also do more than one if you want to do couple of animals.
We always have lots of fun doing this in class and I really hope you enjoy creating these at home.

Learning Project - to be done throughout the week
The project work this week aims to provide opportunities for your child to learn more about the world’s rainforests. Learning may focus on the plants, animals and insects that inhabit the rainforest, food that originates there and weather patterns. It could look at plants and animals that can be found in the garden too.
● Amazing Animals- Ask your child to think about the following: How many different types of animals live in rainforests? Can they name any? What is their diet like? How do they hunt for their prey or hide from predators? Look at these 11 amazing rainforest animals. Encourage your child to choose one of the animals and create a poster all about them.
● Layers of the Rainforest- Take a look at this information with your child, all about the layers of the rainforest. Ask your child to try creating their own diagram showing the layers of the rainforest and the animals you can find in each layer. Your child could cut and stick pictures, paint or draw! Can your child categorise the animals?
● Roar!- Have a go at this forest themed GoNoodle! Finished? Ask your child to try making up their own rainforest-themed dance routine to the same song - they could pretend to be a different animal for each dance move! Recommendation at least 2 hours of exercise a week.
● One Step at a Time- Talk to family members about the deforestation of rainforests and think about how we could help by taking small steps at home. This article should help get them started! Can your child record their very own advert encouraging people to reduce, reuse, recycle? Encourage them to think about the impact on the environment, animals and their habitats, global warming and the tribes that occupy the rainforests. Alternatively, they could write a jingle about the benefits of recycling and perform this to the family. Share these at #TheLearningProjects.
