  Good morning Home School!

Morning work

Get your journals and copy and complete as many questions as you can. Think about quick ways to work out the answers. You might need to use a different method for each question. Is multiplication commutative? (e.g. 4x2=2x4)

Black  - questions for everyone

Blue - Y2

English

We have been practicing robot letters. Can you remember the two robot letters we have done already this week? Watch the video below to find out which one we are doing today.

Y1 practice the letter 'r' on the third page of your Handwriting Extra booklet.

Y2 copy over the letter 'r' on your laminated letter formation sheets then practice writing the words below in your Home School books.

Friday is a special day. Let's find out why.

Imagine that you are having a VE Day street party. You could draw a picture of the party or draw a picture or make a list of things you would want at a street party.

 Y1 Maths

The children in the book have been thinking about what time they go to bed.

The pages in your Maths No Problem book today are 105 and 106. The clocks in the book are small and hard to see so you might want to copy the clocks using your home made clocks each time.

Optional Challenge: Pages 107 and 108

Y2 Maths

Let's use what we learnt about the minute hand yesterday to help the children in the book tell the time.

What time does this clock say? Can you write it as a digital clock?

Well the hour hand is showing that it is past 7.
The minute hand is showing 10 minutes past.
So it must be 10 minutes past 7.
On a digital clock that would look like

7:10

The pages in your Maths No Problem book day are 129 and 130. You need to write the digital time not words. So for 20 minutes past 6 you can write  6:20.

Maths Super Challenge

Phonics/Spelling

Y1 log onto Phonicsplay or https://new.phonicsplay.co.uk/ . Click on 'phase 5' then scroll down to Investigating Alternative Spellings /oa/ . Choose the word sort game. Can you remember all the different spellings for the /oa/ sound? What is is the best bet?

Y1 and Y2 practice your spellings using the 'Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check' method on your spelling sheets then log onto WordShark. I have set this weeks spellings so you need click on the 'My Set Work' tab at the top of the screen. Practice spelling for 10 mins. If you are having trouble using Wordshark then choose 2 of your spelling words. Look at them then without looking again write a sentence using those words. Check - did you spell them correctly?

Reading

Y1 & Y2 Read a few pages from your school book. Then quiet reading for 20 mins - you can carry on reading your school book, or choose a book you have at home. Think about a quiet place you could go to read. Maybe outside?

Topic

What is a plant? How do you know if a plant is alive? What do plants need to stay alive? Is it the same as animals? How do you make sure that the plants in your house or garden stay healthy and keep growing?
Lots of questions for you to think about and investigate this week.

Watch the 2 videos on this page to find out what plants need to grow https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zpxnyrd/articles/zxxsyrd
