Writing a recount about our own experiences
This week we have been applying everything we have been learning about recounts to write one for last Thursday. Here is a piece made up of sentences from the books of different children in the class.

Last Thursday we came to school in red, white and blue clothes because we were celebrating the King’s coronation. Everyone’s clothes were spectacular. Lyra was wearing a big red cloak and a silver crown. She even had a flag to wave and looked just like a queen.  Lucy came in an amazing Union Jack dress!

At lunch time it was so exciting because we had a giant buffet outside. There was bunting everywhere and to eat we could choose sandwiches, sausage rolls, cheese straws, cake and even crown biscuits. My plate blew away in the wind but luckily it didn’t have any food on! I love tuna sandwiches so much that I had two of them. I also loved the cake with sprinkles and the crown biscuits so I chose both because I always have room for sweet things even if I am full!

Just before home time we sang ‘Coronation Day’, ‘Sing for the King’ and ‘The National Anthem’ to all the parents and adults in the playground. I was nervous but it blew over after the second of the three songs. My sister was in the harmony part and I heard her singing nicely with the others whilst I was singing.

At the end of the day there was a jarbola and some other fun activities. It was one of the best school days ever and I will always remember it!
