I hope that you enjoy the Space Project activities this week.  Remember, you can do the tasks in any order and you don't have to do them all if you don't have time.
For those of you who are in school today, I hope that you have a lovely day with Mrs Higginbotham!

Reading:
Let's start our Space learning this week with a story:   Click on the book to start
Read, or listen to this story: ‘Bob, Man on the Moon’
This is a funny story with some very strange characters!  What do you think is real in this story?  What has been made up by the writer?   Can you draw one of the funny aliens?

Have a look on your bookshelves to see if you have any stories or information books about Space and the planets.
Can you find the names of each of the planets?

Try to spend at least twenty minutes reading. This can be reading a book aloud or sharing a book with an adult.

Writing:
Your task today is to design your own rocket. Draw what the rocket will look like then label the parts.
Write down the materials to be used.

Can you make a list of adjectives (describing words) to describe the rocket?
Here's some examples:     powerful     noisy
Can you list some verbs (action words) to describe how it moves?
Here's some examples:      zoom          shoot

Handwriting
Please watch the videos and listen to Mrs Higginbotham's instructions to complete your handwriting page:

Y1 Handwriting
When we write words in joined up we can join the letters together. Watch the video below to find out how to write some words in joined up.

Now complete the words ‘a’, ‘an’ and ‘am’ on the first page of Handwriting 3. It should say ‘Diagonal join to short letters 2’ at the top of the page.

 Y2 Handwriting
Let’s think about which letters are tall letters and which letters are short letters. Watch the video below to find out which words we are practicing today.

Now complete the first 5 lines on the first page of Handwriting 6 headed ‘More joining to curly e’. The last word that you practice should be the word ‘them’.

Phonics and Spelling:
Planet names and the alphabet:
Let’s remind ourselves of the order of the alphabet letters.
Can you write all the letters of the alphabet, in the correct order?

Did you find the name of the planets in the reading task?
Here they are if you weren’t sure or if you want to check your answers:
Mercury     Venus      Earth     Mars   Jupiter   Saturn    Uranus     Neptune
Write the names of the planets on separate pieces of paper and practise reading them. Can you order them alphabetically?

Also, please write the spellings for this week into your spelling log.

Maths:
Please log into MyMaths to find today’s tasks.
Year 1: – Log onto MyMaths to find today’s task.
This is an online worksheet about shapes.

Year 2: Sums crossing tens - Log into MyMaths to find today's task.
Please work on the lesson activities, then complete the Homework task.

Also, for those of you who would like to do a maths challenge.  Have a go at these questions!

Collective Worship
We learnt about friendship in our collective worship last week. Today, we're going to join Mrs Barker to think about Thankfulness.  To join in,  please go to the Class 4 Page or The School News Page and look for the Collective Worship picture.

Be kind and help others
Have you done anything to help someone else today?  Try to do a kind act for someone else. It might be to help with something or it might be to do something to cheer up another person.  A friendly wave and smile through the window can mean a lot to someone who is lonely.

Forest Schools:
How about building a den sometime during this week? Mrs Goss has suggested these super ideas for den building:
-Forest school task sheet WC 15.6.20.pdf-

 P.E:

Choose a time when you will do some exercise today. Have you decided what you're going to do?  Maybe more than one thing.  You might like to do one of the activities below, or maybe go for a walk, run or do some cycling.
You could do an exercise routine with Joe Wicks, find a fun activity on GoNoodle or try something new like yoga:  https://www.harrogatessp.com/keeping-all-young-people-active/

The Learning Project this week is Space.  You might find out about
our Solar System, the Sun and the Moon.  You could look at life in outer space from the view of an astronaut and travelling through space.  Enjoy your journey through Space!

 Rocket Creation-
As part of one of your writing tasks, you have been asked to design a rocket.
Can you create your rocket using objects you can find in the home such as cardboard boxes, newspapers and tin foil.
Can you write a set of instructions about how to make the model,  to share with a family member or friend?

Drawing and Colouring Pictures-
You might like to create a space themed picture, using collage, paints, pens or pencils.

If you like colouring in pictures, here are some for you to print:   -t-t-26681-space-themed-mindfulness-colouring-pages-_ver_2-V298746945.pdf-

Our Solar System-
Think about what you already know about space and create a mind map. Draw pictures and diagrams or write notes on a piece of paper to remind yourself about what you already know.

Can you name the planets in our solar system?
Use the Solar System Song (click) to create a diagram showing the order of the planets.
You could make model planets using balloons and paper mache.

Astronaut Aerobics-
Astronauts have to be fit and agile for their missions into space.
Can you design a home workout and put your agility to the test!
You could even use this (click) video to help.
You could then plan a day of healthy eating for the aspiring astronauts, thinking carefully about each food group.

What are Day and Night?-  Watch the video of day and night. Click)
Then create a poster about day and night explaining why we have day and night.
Play the quiz and see how many answers you can get right!

Is There Anything out There?
Tim Peake is a famous British astronaut.  Click on his name for more informaion.
Write the questions that you would ask him if you could interview him.
Pretend to be Tim Peake and ask an adult to read out the questions that you wrote down.
Can you answer the questions in your role as him?

Design a space suit
Can you design a new space suit for Tim Peake? What would make a good space suit?
